GEM has new place
By
GEM ADULT DAY SERVICES has new digs just across from the Baum Center, at 115 Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills. The building is on the corner of Mustian and West Carlton. Also housed in the building are the Community Development Corp. (CDC) and Pathways International. GEM will continue to be open Monday (closed Tuesday to participants), Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The phone number remains the same, 480-3354. Helping GEM obtain new quarters were Chuck Poe of CDC, Dale Draper, Donn Snyder and the Rev. Bob Pitsch. GEM was originally housed in a house in Kill Devil Hills until traffic and zoning issues arose, when it moved to His Dream Center and then to the Unitarian meeting house. The new offices have a gathering area for the GEM activities, a kitchen area in the same room, space for two offices, which the group did not have before, and space for expansion when some of the other tenants moves to another building. GEM now has 10 clients with slots for a few others. The group is currently seeking a program director. GEM director Gail Sonnesso is delighted with Gem’s permanent quarters and looks forward to the expansion which will give the group another bathroom.
