Surfrider meeting planned

By Linda Putnam

Outer Banks Surfriders will hold a general membership meeting Thursday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. on the beach at Ocean Bay access (aka Colington Light) in Kill Devil Hills. The group will discuss International Surfing Day (June 20) and the annual paddle race (July 24).

The group will also  take part in a nationwide hands Across the Sand June 26. This movement is made up of people of all walks of  life and crosses political affiliations. It is not about politics, it is about protection of shorelines, waterways, tourism, coastal military missions and valuable properties.

The group will share its knowledge, energies and passion for protecting all of the above from the effects of oil drilling. A similar movement took place along the Florida coast in February.
