Alterman to show photographs
ByNarure photographer Steve Alterman will showcase his work in the art gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park from July 3-27.
The exhibition is part of the gallery’s 2010 focus on artwork that gives voice to the earth. In ”Earth Speaks,” featured pieces include beach glass art, nature and weather photography, natural material baskets and more. Alterman’s nature photography highlights the Outer Banks, the Hawaiian Islands and the American West. In a recent email, Alterman said of his work featured in the show, ”The common thread in the show is that the ‘hand of man’ is totally absent. All images are of natural scenes taken to best portray nature’s handiwork.” All art gallery shows are free and open to the public. The gallery is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m, and on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a reception for Steve Alterman’s art show July 11, 2-4 p.m.
The show will focus on Alterman’s diverse collection of nature photography. Instead of digital images, Alterman creates his photographs from transparencies. His two published books of photographic art are Outer Banks Edge and Kauai Edge, with Hawaiian photographer Scott Hanft. He won either first place or grand prize in ”Hawaii Magazine’s” photo contests from 1999 to 2003. His poster of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse interior is on display at Washington, D.C.’s Corcoran Gallery of Art. His work also appears in calendars and private photographic art collections. Alterman currently lives in Duck.
