Celebrate Hawaii statehood

By Linda Putnam

Hawaii became a state Aug. 21, 1959 by proclamation of Dwight D. Eisenhower, U.S. President at the time.

In celebration of Hawaii becoming a state, a luau will be held at the Baum Center Aug. 27, 1-3 p.m., so don your grass skirt and floral shirts and bring something Hawaiian to eat and the center will provide Hawaiian punch, music and fun.

Sign up by calling 475-5637, and bring a dish. Recipes available upon request. Hint; think pineapple, coconut, pork, chicken and sweet.
