JEWELRY MAKING Wine & Design by Caitlyn Cartwright and Maia Lippo

SILK SCARF Wine & Design with Caitlyn Cartwright

Pocosin Arts Folk School is pleased to present evenings of fun and creativity with our new Wine & Design classes. Let your inner artist shine as a professional artist guides you in making your very own handmade work of art. We provide you with step-by-step instructions from professional artists as you create a wearable masterpiece. You and your friends get to enjoy a fun night out. At the end of the evening, you go home with your own personal work of art and wonderful memories!

On March 16th Wine & Design will feature metalsmiths Maura Cartwright and Maia Leppo hosting a jewelry-making workshop from 6-8 p.m. Workshop participants will make earrings, necklaces and bracelets using a combination of dapped circles, bottle caps, coins and tin. You’ll get demonstrations in sawing, beading, riveting, drilling and dappping and go home with your own spectacular. Cartwright and Leppo are full-time metalsmiths, who, after receiving their college degrees, have furthered their studies at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, penland School of Crafts and Pocosin Arts Folk School. They currently reside in Columbia where they share a studio and co-own Columbia Art Space. Pocosin Arts Folk School is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit arts organization promoting education in the arts. It is located at 201 Main St. in Columbia.

On March 23, Wine & Design will feature Pocosin Art’s resident artist Caitlin Cartwright hosting a silk painting workshop from 6pm – 8pm. This workshop will lead you in creating your very own hand-painted silk scarf. Cartwright is an accomplished artist and brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to Pocosin Arts. She holds her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, has worked teaching art in Madagascar and Namibia, Africa, and has also worked with inner city youth development in the United States. She joined Pocosin Arts in October 2011.

Pocosin Arts provides all necessary materials. All you need to bring is your favorite bottle of wine or other beverage of choice! The cost is only $35 per class. All classes are at Pocosin Arts Folk School in its second floor studios. Preregistration is necessary, so sign up today!
