About

    Welcome to Outerbanksseniors.com,

a blog for seniors on the outer Banks!

I hope you will enjoy this journal/bulletin board for Outer Banks seniors.  You are invited to send photos of your grandchildren (children, too) , scenic or favorite photos or others.  Include a brief description telling what the photo is about,  maybe a few words about what the photo means to you.

You will also find the calendar or activities for the centers that serve the area’s vibrant senior community.  The Baum Center  in Kill Devil Hills serves senors only;  the Fessenden Center  on Hatteras Island in Buxton has some senior activities,  but its focus is on children;  The  Dare Center on Ronoke Isand  is  to  open , serving e families with an emphasis on seniors.  Activities at these centers will be featured on this blog frequently.

You will also find stories on senior issues, especially health and nutrition, and in every instance you,  the reader’s comments are welcome,  invited and necessary.  Your feedback is vital to the health of this blog, so please email your comments to lp@outerbanksseniors.com.

When a loved one passes away, there is often a sense of wanting to memorialize him or her,  to explain your loved one’s life and legacy and surround your grief with the meaning that was this person. Email your tribute to lp@outerbanksseniors.com or send me a phone number where I can reach the next of kin, and I will interview them and write about your loved one.

A little about me.  My name is Linda Putnam.  I have been a staff reporter for a local newspaper for the last 22 years, covering news, school, sports,  neighbors pages and meetings.  I intend for this blog to combine some of these things with a focus on senior issues and what seniors are doing.  Years ago,  newspapers had items called  “personals,”  announcements of  trips, what was done on them and when the family returned; news about birthdays, anniversaries,  anything personal that helped inform friends and neighbors about what people in the community were doing.  Please email your “personals”  to lp@outerbanksseniors.com to make yourself  and your activities known to other seniors. Include photos,  if you’d like.

Gardening and fishing stories and information are also welcome.  You are invited to submit senior-centerd editorials and discussions on senior issues.  Many seniors are interested in how local government policies and activities affect them, so send in these comments, too.

So, there it is.  I hope this little blog will inform, entertain, bring folks together and make your day a little brighter.  Make this a bookmark site for you and I’ll try to make it liively, informative and entertaining.
