Pickle ball continues
Posted by: | CommentsThe pickle ball group has secured use of the gym at Kitty Hawk Elementary School for expanded play times through the summer. Summer ball times are as follows: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-3 p.m., KHES; Fridays, 1-3 p.m., Dare County Youth Center.
Pickle ball is a relatively new racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a badminton court. The net is lower than most other racquet sports, allowing for faster play. The game is played with a hard paddle and a waffle ball, making the technique required for pickle ball different than other sports.
Pickle ball is a vigorous sport. Please consult your physician and discuss your personal health.

Food bank plans Oct. walk
Posted by: | CommentsOn October 9, 2011, rain or shine, the Food Bank of the Albemarle will hold its annual Walk for Hunger.
Registration and sign-in will begin Oct. 9 at 12:30 p.m., and walkers will leave at 2 p.m. from Charles Creek Park in Elizabeth City and cover about 4.1 miles. The walk is the major fundraiser for the Food Bank, and they rely on the traditionally superb support and enthusiasm from our local communities, churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals to help provide the funds we need to serve the hungry in northeast North Carolina.
Once again, there will be games for the children, camaraderie, and a great snack. Please consider taking part as a walker, a team organizer, or a sponsor. Your efforts will go a long way and make a great impact. For each dollar that is raised by walkers and their sponsors, the food bank is able to provide about five pounds of food. That is the equivalent of more than four meals.
Please circle October 9, 2011 on your calendar and dust off the walking shoes. You may download walk materials at www.afoodbank.org. For more information call Cee Cee at 252-335-4035 extension 100 or George at extension 113. (Courtesy www.obxCommonGood.org)
