If you are interested in becoming a tutor, you must attend a brief orientation prior to the tutor training workshop. The purpose of the orientation is to explain what is required of literacy tutors and to help you decide if tutoring is for you.
Contact the DLC to register for both the orientation and training at 216-7773 or visit dareliteracy@gmail.com.
Orientation is free and will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the KDH Library, 6-7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 19, 4-5:30 p.m., at Nags Head Baptist Church. Only one session is required.

Dare Special Needs Registry
Seniors with special medical needs are urged to plan ahead for the hurricane season. If an evacuation is ordered due to extreme weather you will need dependable and accessible transportation out of the area as a safe and comfortable place to go during the storm. Your medications, special foods, medical supplies or equipment need to be planned for as well as the care of any pets that you have.
If you think you might need help, the Dare County Special Needs Registry brochures are available at the Baum Cener. Seniors who register will be contacted by a social worker if and when dangerous weather conditions start to develop to make sure they can safely remain at home or evacuate if necessary. Call 475-5500 and ask for an adult services social worker for more information.
